This scene has been bugging me since the first time I ever beat Sonic 2 for the Genesis. Both there and at the end of Sonic and Knuckles Eggman stays an even two steps ahead of the world's fastest hedgehog until he reaches his giant Egg-mech to make his last stand. It makes little sense since Eggman doesn't exactly have the figure of an Olympic champion sprinter, or even of your average jogger.
